18/7 - The summer teams first proper cultural experience in Ogugu was meeting the Ochogu (Chief) of Ogugu. Unlike our first visit back in February, the Chief was alone in his 'Palace' but he was happy to see us all the same. He thanked us for bringing more enefu to Ogugu land. We stayed chatting, giving thanks speeches and exchanging gifts for about 20 minutes before heading back home in the scorching heat. The Chief gave us some Colla-nut, which is the mark of great respect in Ogugu. 'Colla-nut brings life.'
The team then relaxed for the rest of the day and got settled in and used to the heat whilst i had another local volunteer meeting for the holiday club. Unfortunately Campbell began to feel ill because of his diabetes, so we sent him off to Holley Memorial to be in the capable hands of the 'white angels' (the 4 medical electives).
